The States United in 1789 and formed Washington D.C. and constructed a Constitution to balance, define and limits it's power, including 10 amendments to prevent the encroachment of this new federal government on the freedoms of its citizens.
In a perversity that would panic the Founding Fathers, our current situation has been reversed.
Until regime change occurs, The States owe their very existence to the Trillions in dollars that are graciously re-distributed to the states from the Distric of Columbia, of course with a few strings attached.
Unfunded mandates that have literally bankrupted the states. A "Stimulus Bill" that was used to protect government jobs and government mandates on the state level. It has produced no new private sector jobs.
